Privacy policy

What StanServe collects through this website, why, who else sees it, and how to have it corrected or deleted.

Last updated September 17, 2026.

This policy explains how StanServe, a Stan Technology company ("we", "us"), handles personal information collected through stanserve.com. We are based in British Columbia, Canada, and handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

What this policy covers

This website only. Billing and client accounts live in Stan Billing at stanbilling.com, which is shared by the Stan Technology companies and has its own policy. Our status page is hosted by Better Stack on their own domain. Data you keep on servers we manage for you is not collected through this website and is not covered here.

What we collect and why

You can read this site without telling us who you are. We only collect personal information when you send it through the contact form: your name, email address and message, plus the company and the service you are interested in if you give them. We use it to reply to you and to follow up on the conversation.

When you send the form, we email you to confirm it arrived, and email ourselves a notice of the new inquiry. We use personal information only for these purposes, or for a new purpose we tell you about and, where required, ask you to agree to. We do not sell it.

Who else sees it

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the site, and only as much as each needs:

  • CleanTalk, our spam-filtering service. When you send the contact form, it receives your IP address, email address, name, message, browser user agent, the referring page and how long the form was open, and tells us whether the submission looks like spam. The contact page also loads CleanTalk's bot detection script, described below.

  • Bunny Fonts, which serves the site's typefaces. Like any server delivering a file, it receives your IP address and browser details when your browser fetches the fonts.

  • Our web hosting and email providers, which store the site's data and deliver the emails it sends you and us.

Some of these providers may store or process information outside British Columbia or outside Canada, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

CleanTalk's bot detection script

The contact page loads a small script from CleanTalk whose job is to tell a person filling in the form apart from an automated one. While you are on that page it observes how the page is used: pointer movement and where clicks land, scrolling, which kinds of keys have been pressed (such as the space bar), how quickly you type and whether text was pasted rather than typed, which fields you focus and the names and labels those fields carry, your screen size, your browser's user agent and the page that referred you, and technical checks such as whether cookies and WebGL are available and whether the browser appears to be an ordinary one rather than an automated tool.

It does not record the words you type. What it measures is the manner of the typing, not its content. It produces a token that is sent with the form so that CleanTalk can match its spam check to what the script saw.

The script runs only on the contact page, is not loaded anywhere else on the site, and is not loaded at all if we turn spam filtering off. If you block it, your message still sends and we still reply; it is simply checked with less information.

Other third parties

Links to other sites, such as Stan Billing, our status page or the other Stan Technology companies, are ordinary links: those sites only receive information about you if you follow them. We do not use a website analytics tool. If we add one, we will name it here before it runs.

Cookies and browser storage

  • A session cookie (stan-serve-session) keeps the site working while you use it, for up to two hours.

  • A security cookie (XSRF-TOKEN) protects the contact form against cross-site request forgery, for up to two hours.

  • A region cookie (region) remembers which currency prices are shown in, for up to a year. The site may suggest a region from the country your connection appears to come from, but never switches it for you and does not store your location. If you dismiss that suggestion, a cookie (geo_dismissed) remembers it for 30 days.

  • A theme cookie (theme) remembers whether you chose light or dark, for up to a year. The same choice is kept in your browser's local storage.

  • CleanTalk's bot detection script, on the contact page, keeps what it has observed in your browser's local storage while it works, and briefly writes a test cookie to find out whether cookies are enabled at all.

These are needed for the site and its spam protection to work. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep inquiries for as long as we need them to reply to you, to follow up on the conversation, and for our business records. When we no longer need personal information, we delete it or make it anonymous. You can ask us to delete yours sooner.

How we protect it

The site is served only over an encrypted connection, and only we can reach the admin area where inquiries are kept. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps for the sensitivity of what we hold.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to our using it, subject to legal and contractual limits. Use the contact page. We will answer within 30 days and may need to confirm who you are first.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when what we collect or how we use it changes, and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so on the site.
